Registration for the Spring April 17th and 18th, 2021 Marriage Preparation Weekend is at the bottom of this page.
Congratulations on your engagement!
Marriage Preparation is required for any marriage in the Catholic Church. St. Joe’s hosts Marriage Preparation twice a year. At St. Joe’s there are two aspects of Marriage Preparation: The Marriage Preparation Weekend and the FOCCUS Online Pre-Marital Inventory.
- MARRIAGE PREPARATION COURSE & WORKBOOK: The St. Joe’s Marriage Preparation Course helps you better prepare for a marriage based in faith and community and to help build on your present foundation of communication and relationship building skills. It is designed to explore some of the demands and responsibilities of a faith-based marriage, and to examine your thoughts, beliefs, and feelings about your marriage. A workbook is included in the course. The course runs from 9:30am-4pm on Saturday and Sunday. Each of you must attend all the sessions. You will also complete a workbook on your own time, together. More on that below.
- If you reside in Ottawa but are getting married in another diocese, it is important that your marriage paperwork be completed in your home parish in Ottawa after which it will be sent to the (arch)diocese of the parish where your wedding will take place. Please ensure the paperwork is completed well in advance of your wedding to ensure enough time for the delivery of your marriage paperwork.
- FOCCUS Online Pre-Marital Inventory
Once your registration and payment is received for a given Marriage Preparation weekend course, you will be sent a link to the FOCCUS Pre-Marital online inventory, along with instructions. You will each take the FOCCUS Pre-Marital inventory online separately, on your own time. Then, at a later date (often after the weekend course) you will be contacted to meet together at the parish with a facilitator couple to discuss your responses in the inventory. Couples get a lot out of these discussions as the inventory will highlight areas of agreement as well as areas that will benefit from more discussion between you and your fiancé.
The cost for the Marriage Preparation weekend course, workbook and FOCUS inventory is $150 per couple.
When you come to the parish office to pay for the weekend course, you will also pick up a workbook – one per couple. Each couple is expected to complete the Marriage Preparation Workbook together on their own time before the course begins.
(Please plan to drop off your payment of cash or check at the parish office. Do not mail a check since you need to pick up your workbook at the time of payment).
Receipt of payment secures your registration in the course. You can drop off your payment and pick up your workbook at the Parish Office at:
St. Joseph’s Parish Office
151 Laurier Ave. East
Ottawa, ON K1N 6N8
(we are across Cumberland from the U of O’s Tabaret Hall at the corner of Laurier and Cumberland)
Parish Office hours: Mon-Fri 9AM-5PM – A receptionist will help you.
Parking: in our lot for free. No need to pay the meter since you will be running in and out.
Checks should be made out to “St. Joseph’s Parish” and include the bride and groom’s last name in the memo section of the check. Be sure to get a receipt if you pay by cash.
Since this course often fills, if your payment is not received within two weeks of this registration, your registration is not secured and your seat will be open for registration by another couple. Thanks for your understanding.
Once paid, your registration fee is non-refundable, unless we can fill your spot with another couple.
