Dear St. Joe’s Parishioners,
This weekend, we’re bringing you a video reflection from parishioner Joan O’Connell for Solidarity Sunday, as well as a Liturgy of the Word script prepared by Jamie Loback, complete with video readings from parishioners Roshene and Keira Lawson. Additionally, for some music from our church, here’s our parish organist Tom Fagan performing “Danny Boy” on St. Joe’s historic organ! Thanks to everyone who helped put this weekend’s material together!
- Fifth Sunday of Lent – March 29, 2020 – Liturgy of the Word for use at home

I also wanted to take this opportunity to update you on some parish news:
Outreach to members of our parish
For those parishioners who are in isolation and need supplies brought to them, we have parishioners and young adults who are willing to help you out. Please reach out to Andrew Pump by email at apump@st-josephs.ca if you need anything, even just a phone call to see how you are doing!
Adoration
St. Joseph’s Parish normally holds Adoration on the first Friday of each month, right after noon Mass. We invite parishioners to join in this Eucharistic act of Adoration spiritually, from their home. You will find many resources online.
The St. Joe’s Food Bank
Recognizing that this period of physical distancing and shut-down is especially difficult for the vulnerable we serve through the St. Joe’s Supper Table, Ryan Mitchell is relaunching the Food Bank this coming Thursday. Food banks are deemed an essential service by the Government of Ontario. Following established precautions, pick-ups will be by appointment only on April 2, 2020. Ryan will be working the window at the 151 Laurier Avenue East entrance, and clients will be scheduled to arrive for pick-up at 15-minute intervals, in order to ensure that people do not congregate outside nor inside the rectory.
As well, St. Joe’s would like to thank all volunteers in the Sandy Hill community and City Councillor Mathieu Fleury for helping with a pop-up food bank in Strathcona Heights this past week, at a time when St. Joe’s had to temporarily suspend this service. As our parishioners know, the St. Joe’s Supper Table has been operating a satellite food bank each week in Wiggins/Strathcona Heights for a number of years with the help of two dedicated members of our community, Patsy and Laurie.
Status of Holy Week and Easter Masses
Due to the COVID19 pandemic, public Masses for Holy Week and Easter are cancelled throughout the Archdiocese of Ottawa, as well as in the Diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall. St. Joe’s will be providing both video material, as well as written content for Holy Week and Easter. Please stay tuned!
Sunday offerings during the period of closure
We know that these are difficult financial times for many in our community; we are very grateful for the support that we have continued to receive. Most of our parish expenses continue during this period and we are exploring all forms of government emergency assistance available to NGOs and other entities. If you use Sunday envelopes to donate to the Parish and would like to continue giving during this period, a good option is through Canada Helps. You can donate securely to the Parish fund of your choice through credit card using the interactive form found on our website: http://www.st-josephs.ca/about/donations/.
Thank you for continuing to stay connected with us during this period!
Peace,
Chris
