Sacraments

Welcome to the information page on sacraments in the parish. Sacraments represent significant moments in our life and a new relationship with God. This is a time of care, reflection and preparation

Infant Baptism: Children under seven fall into this category. Preparation sessions for parents take place throughout the year as the need arises. Baptism is so much apart of being in community that parish membership is required for baptism. If you are not part a parish currently, we invite you to look us upand try us out. Can you call St.Joe's your spiritual home? To register for baptism preparation or to inquire about infant baptism please call Kathy Crowe. 613-230-4752 or crowne@sympatico.ca

Confirmation; The age for confirmation of children has recently changed and beginning this fall of 2009, confirmation will be celebrated around the age of 12. This year we are not anticipating any participants, however if a person is serching for this sacrament for their child, please contact Mary Murphy at 613-233-4095 ext 227 or Mary@st-josephs.ca

Adult Confirmation: We currently meet Monday nights at 6:30pm in the rectory of the church. To register for this process please contact Mary at Mary@st-josephs.ca. The process involves being a member of the parish, reflection, some instruction, and faith sharing.

First Communion: Generally most children particiapting in first communion are in grade 2. The preparation session for first communion begin in January. The dates are as follows and each session takes place after the 9:30am Sunday mass. January 17th, January 24th, February 21st, February 27th, March 21st, March 27th, April 17th and April 25th. A group celebration will take place at the 9:30am mass on may 16th 2010, but other dates for first communion can be arranged as necessary. Registration begins in mid October at the church entrance after the 9:30am mass.  All Participants must be active members of the parish, including children. There is a parent formation process with is sacrament.

Reconciliation:  These sessions are offered to families as they help to form their children in the practice of forgiveness and understanding of God's great love and mercy. The sessions take place beginning in October after the 9:30am Sunday mass. The dates are Oct 18th, Oct 25th, November 8th, November 15th, and Friday November 27th. All sessions except the Friday evening at 45 minutes long. There is a parent formation process with is sacrament. The celebration of the sacramanet of First Reconcilation will be December 9th at 6:30pm.

Adults discerning baptism enter into a process called the Rite of Initiation of Adults ( RCIA) and this process can take anywhere from 1 to three years. Currrently we are meeting Sunday nights at 6:30pm in the church.  The process for adults allows for a period of discovery, formation, faith sharing and catechesis ( teaching in the faith and the faith traditions) To meet for a chat contact Mary Murphy at mary@st-josephs.ca or 613-233-4095 ext 227

Sacrament of the Sick: This sacrament is not only one for strength and courage it is also one of mission. We don;t often think of a person who is sick as someone on a mission, yet, their presence in our lives calls us to a deeper care and awareness of God's presence in oru midts through vulnerability. In the state if illness we are invited to a new openess and humility and this certainly sends us more deeply into our faith and the compassion of God. Thsi sacrament is often celebrated after a mass, or by appointment and sometimes during mass. It may also be celebrated at your home with your family present or not, or in the hospital. To arrange the celebration of this sacrament please contact Fr. Richard at Richard@st-josephs.ca or Mary Murphy Mary@st-josephs.ca

Marriage: This sacrament can seem a little more complicated in the preparation process. The first thing to consider once you have been engaged is to contact your parish priest or Fr. Richard at  Richard@st-josephs.ca  or at 613-233-4095 ext 222. He will ask some basic questions 1. have you ever been married before? Is one of you Catholic? etc The sacrament of marriage is the right of any baptised catholic, however, many baptised catholics no longer practice so, there is process for parishioners and a separate process for non- parishioners ( those not practicing or using the church facility as visitors) It is not as scary as it sounds and we certainly hope that if you are not practicing, that you will take a chance and try church again as you prepare.

To register for Marriage Preparation, please fillout form, you will be contacted within the week to confirm your registration.
